Bluffton University’s president Dr. James M. Harder will retire on June 30, 2018. Harder has been president of Bluffton for 12 years. He has worked in Mennonite higher education for the past 32 years, including 17 years at Bluffton. The university plans to appoint a search committee for a new president in the coming weeks.

Mr. Harold Martin Jr. is the new interim president of Morehouse College as of June 26, 2017. He takes over the duties of former interim president William J. (Bill) Taggart, who passed away earlier in June. Mr. Martin was formerly Secretary of the Morehouse Board of Trustees and has stepped down from the Board to assume his role as interim president.
Dr. B. Kaye Walter was fired from her job as president of Bergen Community College on June 27th. The college board gave no reason for ending Walter’s contract. Dr. Michael Redmond, professor of religion and philosophy has been named interim president.
Dr. Roslyn Clark Artis is named Benedict College’s 14th president. She will replace Dr. David Homes Swinton who has been in office for 23 years and retired last week. She will start in her new position September 1. Dr. Clark will be the first woman president to lead the college. She currently is president of Florida Memorial University.
President Leroy (Huero) Sanchez has been terminated from Luna Community College. Dr. Sanchez has been president since June 2015 and was being investigated for various issues. His last day in office was June 30. The college is currently searching for an interim president.
Hickey College which consists of a culinary institute and a veterinary technology institute, has announced it will close soon. This is due mainly to Hickey’s low enrollment. The school will remain open for approximately 18 months to allow current students to finish their education.
CCSF has named Dr. Mark Rocha as its next chancellor. The Board of Trustees approved his contract last week and Rocha will assume leadership July 1, 2017. He succeeds the current interim chancellor Ms. Susan E. Lamb. CCSF has not had a permanent chancellor since 2015.
Martha Bedard, vice provost for libraries at University of Connecticut (UConn), retires July 20, 2017. UConn has selected Holly Jeffcoat as the interim vice provost for libraries until Bedard’s replacement is found. Currently Jeffcoat is UConn’s assistant vice provost for libraries.
University of California Riverside professor Shaun Bowler will become the next dean of the Graduate Division effective July 1, 2017. Bowler has been teaching at UCR for the past 28 years. He is both excited and nervous about taking on this new responsibility.
Dr. L. Gregory Jones will return to Duke University in a faculty position effective June 30, 2017. Jones has been Baylor University’s EVP and Provost since May 16, 2016. Baylor will name an interim provost in the near future.
