Whitworth University Interim President to Become the 19th President

Whitworth Interim President Scott McQuilkin has been selected as its permanent president. He succeeds President Beck A. Taylor who departed for Samford University. read more

 

New President Appointed at Malone University

Malone University has appointed Provost Gregory J. Miller as its 14th president. He succeeds Dr. David King who is retiring in June 2022. read more

 

Avila University Selects its Next President

Dr. James Burkee will take over from retiring President Ronald Slepitza effective July 2022. Burkee is currently vice president for strategic initiatives at the College of Mount Saint Vincent. read more

 

Pacific University Announces 18th President

Current dean of Ketchum University’s College of Optometry Dr. Jennifer Coyle is named president of Pacific University. She will succeed President Dr. Lesley M. Hallick who retires this summer. read more

 

Former Community College President Selected as Northeast Iowa Community College President

Northeast Iowa CC has named Dr. Herbert Riedel as its next president.  Previously, Riedel served as president of Lurleen B. Wallace CC. read more

 

Widener University Names 11th President

Dr. Stacey Robertson will be Widener University’s next president. She is currently provost and VP for academic affairs at SUNY College at Geneseo. read more

 

Fordham University Selects Future President

Tania Tetlow is selected as president of Fordham University. She will be the first layperson and first woman leader of Fordham University. read more

Lake Forest College Announces Next President

Lake Forest named Dr. Jill M. Baren to be its new president. Baren will replace Stephen Schutt who is retiring after 21 years as president. read more

 

Frederick Community College Appoints New President

Dr. Annesa Cheek will be Frederick CC president in July.  Dr. Cheek is currently president of St. Cloud Technical & Community College. read more

 

New President Selected by North Dakota State University

North Dakota State U. has selected Dr. David Cook as its 15th president. Cook serves as a Vice Chancellor at the University of Kansas and will start in his new position in July 2022. read more

 

Winthrop University Appoints Alumnus as Next President

Edward Serna will be Winthrop University’s next president. He is currently the president of the University of Maine at Farmington. read more

 

Southern University System and Southern University and A & M College Name New Leader

Dennis Shields is named president of Southern University System and chancellor of Southern University and A&M College. He succeeds retiring President-Chancellor Ray L. Belton. read more

 

New President Chosen by the University of Detroit Mercy

The University of Detroit Mercy has appointed Dr. Donald B. Taylor as its 26th president. Taylor is currently president of Cabrini College. read more

 

Southern Wesleyan University Selects Next President

Southern Wesleyan has named Dr. William D. Barker as president. Barker will replace Interim President Dr. Bill S. Crothers effective July 2022. read more

 

Lewis and Clark College Appoints 26th President

Dr. Robin Holmes-Sullivan is chosen as Lewis and Clark’s new president effective July 2022. She succeeds retiring President Wim Wiewel. read more

 

New President Appointed by Alfred State College

Dr. Steven Mauro was appointed president of Alfred State College. He previously served as VP for strategy and campus operations at Gannon University. read more

 

Penn State Altoona Admin Selected as Penn State DuBois Chancellor and Chief Academic Officer

Penn State DuBois has named Dr. Jungwoo Ryoo its next chancellor and CAO. Dr. DuBois replaces retired Chancellor M. Scott McBride. read more

 

Bethel University Names New President

Bethel University Interim President Barbara Bellefeuille was named to the position permanently. She has been with the university since 2012. read more

 

Former Georgia Governor Appointed Chancellor of the University System of Georgia

Dr. Sonny Perdue is chosen as chancellor of the University System of Georgia. Perdue was also the former U.S. Secretary of Agriculture. read more

 

Azusa Pacific University Selects Next President

Azusa Pacific names Dr. Adam J. Morris as 18th president. Morris is currently EVP, chief transformation officer and chief advancement officer at Biola University. read more

 

Northwest College Promotes Interim President to Permanent Status

Northwest College has promoted Lisa Watson from interim to permanent president. Watson has been in the interim position since November 2020. read more

 

Mid-America Christian University Names New President

Rev. Phil Greenwald will be the next president of Mid-America Christian University. He succeeds outgoing President Dr. John Fozard. read more

 

New President Announced at Lane Community College

Lane CC has chosen Dr. Stephanie Bulger as its 8th president. Bulger currently serves as VC for instructional services at San Diego CC. read more

 

Cleveland State University Chooses Next President

Cleveland State University names Dr. Laura Bloomberg as the university’s 8th president. Dr. Bloomberg replaces Harlan Sands, who served as CSU’s president since 2018. Read more

Sue Ott Rowlands is selected as Randolph College’s new president. She will succeed President Dr. Bradley W. Bateman who retires in June. read more

Clinton CC has chosen Dr. John Kowal as its next president. Kowal has been Administrator in Charge there since August 2021. read more

 

Faulkner University Selects Next President

Mitch Henry is Faulkner’s 9th president. He replaces President Mike Williams who steps down to become president of Harding University. read more

 

State Fair Community College Names 6th President

State Fair CC has named Dr. Brent Bates as its new president. He is currently serving as VP for education and student support services at SFCC. read more

Catholic University has appointed Dr. Peter K. Kilpatrick as President. He will succeed President John Garvey who will step down after 12 years as president. read more

 

Texas State University Names Future President

Texas State U Names Dr. Kelly R. Damphousse as president. Damphousse currently serves as president of Arkansas State University in Jonesboro and will join TSU in July. read more

 

New President Selected at Talladega College

Dr. Gregory Vincent will become the 21st president of Talladega College. He replaces President Dr. Billy C. Hawkins who retires in July. read more

 

West Virginia State University Appoints Next President

WVSU has chosen Ericke Cage as its 13th president. Cage has been WVSU’s interim president since September 2021. read more

 

Duke U. Dean Selected as President of University of Maryland Baltimore County

UNBC has named Dr. Valerie Sheares Ashby as its next president. Ashby will succeed President Dr. Freeman Hrabowski in August. read more

 

North Dakota State College of the Sciences Appoints 10th President

NDSCS has appointed Dr. Rod Flanigan as president. Flanigan is currently dean of business and technology at Cochise College in Arizona. read more

 

Interim President Named at Mount Holyoke College

Dr. Beverly Daniel Tatum has been named interim president of Mount Holyoke College. She will replace President Sonya Stephens who steps down in August to become president of The American University of Paris. read more

 

Hampton University Hires Retired General as President

Hampton University has chosen retired Lt. General Darrell K. Williams as its next president. He succeeds Dr. William R. Harvey, who retires after 44 years as Hampton’s president. read more

 

University of Colorado Interim President Promoted

Mr. Todd Saliman has been named president of the University of Colorado.  He has been CU’s interim president since July 2021. read more

James T. Minor has been named the next chancellor at Southern Illinois University. Minor currently serves as the assistant vice chancellor and senior strategist in the office of the chancellor at Cal State University. He will become the school’s 10th chancellor on March 1st.

Martin A Schmidt has been named the next president of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Schmidt currently serves as provost at MIT and will begin his tenure on July 1st.

President at Indiana Wesleyan to Retire

David Wright, current president of Indiana Wesleyan has announced his plan to retire at the end of this academic year. Wright has served the school since 2013.

Flagler President Announces Retirement

President Joseph G. Joyner will retire after the 2020-21 academic year. Joyner joined the school in 2017. A national search is currently underway to find Flagler’s next president.

SW Oklahoma State President Retiring

President Randy Beutler has announced plans to retire from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Beutler has served as the university’s president since February of 2010.

Victor to Retire from Mercyhurst

President Michael T. Victor has announced his plans to retire from Mercyhurst University this June. Victor began his tenure as the school’s 12th president in August of 2015. A search for the next president is currently underway.

Resignations

Michigan President Fired

Mark Schlissel has been fired by The University of Michigan Board of Regents. The decision comes after and investigation into an anonymous report that he was having an affair with a subordinate employee.

FIU President Resigns

Florida International University President Mark Rosenburg has resigned as president.  Initially citing health concerns, Rosenburg released an additional statement saying he “caused discomfort for a valued colleague.” Rosenburg has served at FIU since 1976.

University of Florida President Announces Resignation

Kent Fuchs has announced his plant to step down as president at the University of Florida. Fuchs is beginning his eighth year as leader at the school. He said he plans to officially resign from the post once a successor is named.

Texas A&M President Resigning Earlier than Expected

President Michael Young has announced his plans to leave his roll as president at Texas A&M. Young previously said he would resign in May of 2021, however he stepped down on December 31st 2020. Current chair of the engineering school, Dr. John L. Junkins, has stepped in as interim president until a replacement is found.

The California State University Board has appointed Erika D. Beck to become the next president of Cal State Northridge. Beck is the current president of Cal State Channel Islands and will begin her new role on January 11th, 2021.

Current VP of Academic Affairs, Susan R. Burns, has been selected to become the College of Mont Saint Vincent’s sixth president. Burns will succeed Charles L. Flynn who is retiring. She will begin her tenure as president on January 1st,  2021.

Connecticut College System Provost to Become Interim President    

Jane McBride Gates has been approved by the UConn State College and University Board to become the system’s new interim president. Gates currently serves as the system’s seniot VP for academic and student affairs. She will replace Mark Ojakian who is retiring on December 31st.

Harding University Replaces President        

David Burks, Harding’s chancellor and former president, will return to an administrative role this December. Amid declining enrollment and a shortening budget Harding Trustees announced the need for a replacing current president, Bruce McLarty. A national search is currently being conducted for a long-term successor.

Theresa Felder has been selected to become the 10th president of Harford Community College. Felder will replace Dianna Phillips, who resigned last February. She will begin her tenure on January 1st.

University of Memphis President David Rudd has announced his plan to step down in 2022. Rudd will continue to teach at the school and said, “As a tenured member of the faculty, I have decided to return to the important work of teaching, scientific research and clinical care I set aide 15 years ago when I transitioned to senior administration.” The university’s board has called a special meeting to discuss the executive search process.

Northern Virginia CC Announces New President

Current president of Monroe Community College in Rochester, Dr. Anne Kress, has been named the next president at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA). Kress has served as leader at Monroe CC since 2009. She will begin her tenure at NOVA in January.

Marcia Conston has been named the next president of Tidewater Community College. Dr. Timothy P. White, chancellor of the California State University System, has announced his plan to retire at the end of the 2019-2020 school year. White has served as chancellor of the U.S.’s largest public university system since 2012. CSU Board of Trustees announced they will begin a search for a successor immediately.

After five years at the helm, President Ray Cross has announced his retirement from the University Wisconsin System. Cross said, “I hope that folks will remember me as an advocate for higher education and someone who believes strongly in the value of higher education – its role in our society, its role in our economy and its value individually.” Cross will stay until UW Board of Regents secure a replacement.

President Roger H. Brown has announced his plan to step down as leader of Berklee, effective in May of 2021. Brown has served the school since 2004 and is the institution’s 3rd president.

Blackburn College President, Julie Murray-Jensen, has resigned from Blackburn College. Murray-Jensen served for nine months. According to The State Journal Register, it is not clear whether Murray-Jensen was forced out or not.

After twelve years at the helm, Chris Kimball is stepping down as president of California Lutheran University. Kimball said, “After twelve years as president, I think it is time for a change and for someone with a fresh perspective to lead Cal Lutheran into its very bright future.” He plans to leave at the end of this academic year.

New President Appointed at South Carolina

Former president of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Bob Caslen, has been named the next president at South Carolina. The appointment has been controversial as South Carolina’s Governor McMaster stepped in and forced a vote on Caslen while students and faculty were away from school. Caslen will start on August 1st as USC’s 29th president.

Concordia St. Paul Announces Next President

Rev. Brian Friedrich has been selected as the next president at St. Paul’s Concordia University. Friedrich currently serves as president of Concordia Nebraska. He will become the school’s 10th president on January 1st.

President Larry C. Skogen has announced his plans to retire in June of 2020. Skogen was the school’s sixth president and has served the college for the past twelve years.

Dr. Jerry Hardee has announced, due to health problems, his retirement as president of Paine College. Hardee plans to stay on to “render support throughout the transition” as current provost, Dr. Cheryl Evans Jones, will become acting president.

Effective next June, Chancellor Philip Dubois will retire from UNC Charlotte. Dubois has served as chancellor for the past fifteen years. The school has grown 43 percent since Dubois became its leader in 2005.

After two years at the helm, Auburn University President Dr. Steven Leath has suddenly stepped down as president. Leath and members of the board of trustees’ presidential assessment group decided on the decision.

Hollins’ University President Pareena Lawrence has resigned from her position citing “interest in international education and development.” Lawrence served as president for the past two years. Retired Hollins University President Nancy Oliver Gray has been appointed interim president for the upcoming school year, starting on August 12.

President Richard Merriman Jr. has announced that he will resign as president at the end of the 2019-20 school year. Merriman has served as Mount Union President for the past 2 years. A search for the university’s 13th president will begin shortly.

Bennett College Names New President

Suzanne Walsh has been approved by the Board of Trustees at Bennett College to become the school’s next president. Walsh has previously held leadership roles at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Lumina Foundation. She will replace Phyllis Dawkins, who resigned, this August.

Jeremy Haefner has been named the University of Denver’s 19th Chancellor. Haefner previously served as the university’s provost and executive vice chancellor. He will replace current Chancellor Rebecca Chop, who announced that she will be resigning do to “serious health concerns.” Haefner will begin on July 15th.

Barton D. Darrell has announced his plan to retire as president from Kentucky Wesleyan this June 1st. Darrell has served as the school’s 34th president since September 2014.

President Rahmat Shoureshi has resigned as president from Portland State University. Shoureshi led the school for the past 21 months, but fell out of favor with trustees who questioned his ability to lead the institution.
