Arcadia University Names New President

Dr. Ajay Nair has been named the 22nd president of Arcadia University. Dr. Nair is an Arcadia Alumna who currently serves as senior vice president and dean of campus life at Emory University. Nair will begin as president in April.

Interim President Appointed at Cal. State Fullerton

California State Fullerton has appointed Framroze (Fram) Virjee to become the school’s interim president. Mr. Virjee was previously executive vice chancellor and general counsel for the California State University System Office. He began as interim president on January 1st, 2018.

Dr. Rick Aman Selected at Eastern Idaho

After a four-month search, the College of Eastern Idaho has picked Dr. Rick Aman to become the school’s president. Aman served as president of Eastern Idaho Technical College prior to the formation of the College of Eastern Idaho.

Interim President Named at Gordon State College

Dr. Stuart Rayfield has been selected to become the interim president of Gordon State College. Rayfield became interim president on January 1st, following the retirement of former president, Max Burns, in December.

Dr. Michael Johnson has been selected to become the next president of John Carroll University. Johnson is currently the provost at Babson College. He will begin his tenure in July, replacing Rev. Robert Niehoff, who announced his retirement last March.

Dr. Lori Sundberg will head Kirkwood Community College beginning in August. Sundberg is currently the president of Carl Sandburg College in Illinois. She will take over for Mick Starcevich, who announced his retirement last January.

Dr. Darrell Parker has been introduced as the next president of Limestone College. Parker will take over for Dr. Walt Griffin, who announced his retirement after over 25 years as president. Dr. Parker will begin in this January.

Dr. Hancock Named President of Thomas Edison State

Current SUNY Empire State President, Dr. Merodie Hancock, will become the fourth president at Thomas Edison State University. She will replace Dr. George Pruitt, who announced his retirement last June.

Provost Appointed Interim Chancellor at Western Carolina

Dr. Allison Morrison-Shetlar has been appointed acting chancellor of Western Carolina University. She will take over for Dr. David Belcher, who is on medical leave.

Retirement Announced at Broward College

Dr. David Armstrong is retiring as president of Broward College after 10 years at the helm. Armstrong will stay with the school until June of 2018. A national search is currently being performed to find a replacement.

Hagerstown CC President Retires

Dr. Guy Altieri has retired from Hagerstown Community College. Dr. Altieri has served Hagerstown CC since 2002. The school is currently performing an executive search to find a replacement.

Southwestern Illinois President Announces Retirement

Dr. Georgia Costello has announced her retirement as president of Southwestern Illinois College. Costello has served SWIC since 2007, and will formerly leave the school in late June.

President Retiring from the University of Charleston

Dr. Edwin Welch has announced that he will retire from the University of Charleston in June of 2018. Welch has served the school since 1989.

Cal State Fullerton President Leaving

Dr. Mildred Garcia has announced her resignation as president of Cal State Fullerton. Garcia has served the school for the past six years and will leave in January of 2018. She said, “This is a pretty bittersweet, emotional day for me.” Garcia will continue her role in higher education as the president of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Mary Ellen Mazey, president of Bowling Green State, resigned from the university on December 31st, 2017. Mazey has been at the school for the last seven years.

Olens Resigns from Kennesaw State

Mr. Sam Olens has announced his resignation from Kennesaw State University. His resignation comes on the heels of a cheerleader protest scandal from earlier this year. Olens was appointed in November of 2016.

U of Texas System Chancellor Resigning

William McRaven, the University of Texas System Chancellor, has announced his decision to resign in May of 2018. McRaven previously served in the Navy, where he commanded the group of special forces that killed Osama bin Laden. He has served as Chancellor since 2015.

Delaware Sate University Appoints Interim President

The DSU Board of Trustees has selected Dr. Wilma Mishoe to become the next interim president of the university. Mishoe will begin her role in January after current president, Dr. Harry Williams, moves on to lead the Thurgood Marshall College Fund.

DePaul University President Inaugurated

DePaul University, the largest Catholic university in the country, inaugurated its next president on November 19th. Dr. Gabriel Esteban will oversee 22,769 students as the schools 12th president. Dr. Esteban was previously the president of Seton Hall University in New Jersey.

Dr. David Johns has been named the next president of Ferrum College. Johns currently serves as VP for academic affairs at Union College in Kentucky. He will begin his tenure in January of next year.

Former Administrator Named President at Fort Hays State

Fort Hays State has announced Dr. Tisa Mason will become the school’s next president. Mason previously served the school as the VP of student affairs for six years until 2014, when she became president of Valley City State University. Dr. Mason received her doctorate in higher education from the College of William and Mary in Virginia.

Ithaca College President Inaugurated

Dr. Shirley Collado has been inaugurated as the ninth president at Ithaca College in New York. Collado is the second female president in the school’s 125-year history and said, “We as educators—not just presidents, but faculty and staff—have this responsibility to teach our students and prepare them to become what (Louis) Brandeis says is the most important role in our society—of being a citizen.”

Kaskaskia College President Resigns, Interim President Named

Mr. George Evans has been appointed by the Kaskaskia College Board to become the school’s interim president. Evans received the title after Dr. Penny Quinn announced that she will resign immediately following a board meeting. Evans will serve as interim president until June 30th of next year.

Nicholls State University Names Next President

Nicholls State has named Dr. Jay Clune to become the next president of the university. Clune is currently the interim dean of the graduate school at the University of West Florida. He will begin as president in January.

Dr. Ashish Vaidya has been named the 6th president at Northern Kentucky University. Vaidya is currently the interim president of St. Cloud State University. Vaidya will begin in July of 2018.

New Mexico Appoints Next President

Dr. Garnnett S. Stokes has been appointed the 22nd President of the University of New Mexico. Stokes will succeed Interim President Chaouki Abdallah. Dr. Stokes previously served as the interim chancellor at the University of Missouri and will begin her role as president in March of 2018.

Boise State President Announces Retirement

President Bob Kustra has announced his retirement as president of Boise State University. Kustra has served the school for the past 14 years. He said, “I think every organization deserves the opportunity every so many years for new leadership and 15 years, I thought, was the perfect point where you just say it’s time.” President Kustra will retire at the end of this academic year in June.

Dr. Victor Jaime has announced his retirement from Imperial Valley College in California. Jaime has served as president of the college for the past seven years. He will retire at the end of the 2017/18 academic year.

President Keith Watson will retire from Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences in June of 2018. Watson served the school for 5 years. A search for Watson’s successor is currently underway.

The president of Utah Valley University has announced his resignation after nine years. President Mathew Holland will leave the university in June to become the mission president for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Dr. Barbara Gaba has been inaugurated as the ninth president of Atlantic Cape Community College located on the Jersey Shore. Gaba is the first female and first African American president of the school. Dr. Gaba previously served as VP for academic affairs at Union County College.

The Board of Trustees at Castleton University has voted unanimously to appoint Dr. Karen Scolforo as the next president of the school. Scolforo previously served as president of Central Penn College. She will take over for Dr. Dave Wolk who announced his retirement after 16 years at the helm.

Elon University has named Dr. Connie Ledoux to become the school’s next president. Ledoux currently serves as the provost at The Citadel in South Carolina. She will begin her role as the first female president of Elon in March of next year.

Dr. Wendy Wintersteen has been named the 16th president of Iowa State University. Wintersteen is currently the dean of the school’s college of agriculture and life sciences. Dr. Wintersteen will begin on November 20th.

Dr. David A. Thomas has been approved to become the 12th president of Morehouse College in Atlanta. Thomas is the former dean of Georgetown University’s business school. Dr. Thomas will take over for interim president, Harold Martin Jr., on January 1st of 2018.

Sarah Lawrence College has inaugurated Dr. Cristle Collins Judd as the school’s 11th president this past week. Collins previously served has the senior program officer for higher education at the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

Seth Bodnar has been announced as the 18th president of the University of Montana. Bodnar is a former Green Beret. If approved by Montana’s Board of Regents, Bodnar will begin his presidency on January 1st.

Westminster College has named Dr. Fletcher Lamkin to become the school’s next president. Lamkin served from 2000-2007 with Westminster as an administrator. Dr. Lamkin will replace Dr. Carolyn Perry, who has been serving as interim president since the resignation of Dr. Benjamin Akande.

Albany State President Announces Retirement

Dr. Arthur Dunning has announced that he plans to retire at the end of January 2018. Dunning has served the school since 2013, when he was appointed interim president. He was hired on as the permanent president in 2015.

Greenfield Community College President, Dr. Bob Pura, will retire from the school after 18 years of service. Pura said, “It is now time for me to move on—I think I am ready to graduate.” Pura plans to officially leave the school in June 2018.

After 25 years of leadership at Limestone College, Dr. Walt Griffin has announced his plans to retire. Griffin said, “The thing I will remember most is being involved in the successful college education of probably 10,000 people.” Griffin will leave the school in December of 2017.

After 25 years of leading the University of Central Florida, Dr. John Hitt has announced his retirement. Hitt said, “When we first visited campus, we had a powerful feeling that UCF was a special place. We never could have imagined back then how very special it would become.” Hitt will step down at the end of June 2018.

Dr. Livingston Alexander has announced that he will step down as president of Pittsburgh at Bradford on June 30th, 2018. He has served the school for the past 14 years.

Senator Quinton Ross has been appointed by the board of trustees at Alabama State to become the school’s next president. Ross previously served as a state senator for 15 years. Senator Ross was picked ahead of three other finalists for the job.

Dr. Cindy Gnadinger will become the first female president at Carroll University. Gnadinger currently serves as an executive consultant at Bellarmine University. She will succeed President Douglas Hastad, who retired in July.

President Named at MGH Institute of Health Professions

MGH Institute of Health Professions has named its 6th president after a nationwide search. Dr. Paula Milone-Nuzzo will become the new president of the independent graduate school located in Boston. She comes to the institute after serving 14 years at the College of Nursing at Penn State University.

Dr. James Herbert has been appointed the next president of the University of New England. He was inaugurated on September 9th and said, “I am incredibly honored and privileged to have this position at UNE.” Herbert previously served as executive vice provost at Drexel University.

Reverend Herbert Keller has been named the interim president of the University of Scranton. Keller will serve through the next academic school year, when former president Rev. Scott Pilarz, returns to his former position.

Mr. James James E. Ryan, current dean of the Harvard Graduate School of Education, has been named the next president at the University of Virginia. Ryan, 50, is a former alumnus from the UVA School of Law—where he finished at the top of his class. He will replace current president, Teresa Sullivan, in June of 2018.

Heartland Community College President Announces Retirement

Mrs. Rob Widmer has announced that he will retire from his post as president next year. Widmer has served the school for over 20 years, and began as the VP of business services in 1996. He will retire on June 30th, 2018.

Dr. George Van Allen has announced that he will retire from Nashville State Community College. Dr. Van Allen expanded the school by adding six branch campuses during his tenure at Nashville CC. He will leave the school on December 31st.

Norfolk State President to Retire

The president of Norfolk State University, Mr. Eddie Moore Jr., has announced that he will retire no later than Dec. 31st, 2017. The decision, according to Rector Dr. Byron Cherry, “Kind of caught us kind of off guard a little bit.” Moore has served the school since 2013.

Longtime Oklahoma President Set to Retire

Dr. David Boren has announced that he will retire as president at the University of Oklahoma. Boren said he wanted to retire when the university was at maximum strength, and that he feels now is the time to do so. Boren has served the school since 1994. He plans to officially retire on June 30th, 2018.

Massey Leaving Pitt CC

Dr. Dennis Massey has informed trustees at Pitt CC that he will be retiring at the end of the 2017-2018 academic year. Massey said, “I have been proud to lead a talented group of faculty and staff at PCC.” He has served as the fourth President at Pitt CC since 2003.

University of Jamestown President Robert Badal has announced that he will be retiring at the end of February, 2018. Badal has been at the school since 2002, and said he had “the rare chance to take a small but historic institution to a higher level.”

Norton Retiring from the University of Northern Colorado

Ms. Kay Norton has announced that she will retire from the University of Northern Colorado at the end of June, 2018. Norton has served the school for the last 15 years, and is the longest tenured current president of four-year public institutions in Colorado.

After 18 years serving as Westminster College’s president, Mr. Stephen Morgan has announced that he will retire at the end of 2017-2018 school year. Morgan became the president of Westminster in 2015 and plans to retire next summer.

Dr. Karen M Scolforo has resigned as president from Central Penn College. Scolforo served as the school’s ninth president for the last four years. The college cited personal reasons for Dr. Scolforo’s resignation.

Nicholls State University President, Bruce T. Murphy, has announced that he will resign from the school on Dec. 31st. Murphy served as the school’s 5th president and was appointed in 2013. The board at Nicholl’s state is currently looking for a successor.

Ryan Carstens has announced his resignation from Spokane Community college after two years at the school. SCC’s provost, Kevin Brockbank, has been appointed to serve as interim president while a search for a permanent president is performed.

Dr. Phyllis Worthy Dawkins has been named the permanent president at Bennett College in Greensboro. Dawkins previously served as the school’s interim president. She will become the 18th president at Bennett immediately.

Pacifica Graduate Institute has promoted acting provost, Dr. Joseph Cambray, to become the school’s new president and CEO. Founding president, Dr. Stephen Aizenstate, will serve as Pacifica’s chancellor.

The Los Rios Board of Trustees has approved the appointment of Mr. Michael Gutierrez to become the next president at Sacramento City College. Gutierrez will become the first Latino president at the school.

Dr. Miguel Martinez-Saenz has been announced as the 19th president at St. Francis College. Dr. Martinez-Sainz is currently the provost and VP for academic affairs at Otterbein University. He will begin in September.

St. Joseph’s College has announced the appointment of Dr. Donald Boomgaarden as the school’s next president. Boomgaarden became St. Joseph’s eighth president in early July.

The Sage Colleges have picked Dr. Christopher Ames to become the next leader of the college’s three schools. Dr. Sage was previously provost at Shepherd University in West Virginia.

The University of the Incarnate World has announced Dr. Thomas Evans to become the school’s 10th president. Dr. Evans previously served as president of Carroll College, in Helena Montana.

Virginia Union has selected Dr. Hakim J Lucas as its next president. Lucas will become the school’s 13th president and replaces Joseph F. Johnson, who has been acting president since July of last year. He will begin as president in September.

Cal State Bakersfield President to Retire

Dr. Horace Mitchell has announced that he will retire as president from CSUB. He has served as acting president for the past 13 years. Dr. Mitchell plans to retire in June of 2018, allowing time for CSUB to find his successor.

Idaho State University President Retiring

Dr. Arthur Vailas, president of Idaho State, will retire from the school at the end of the academic year. Vailas has served the school for the past 12 years, and was ISU’s 12th president.

Lewis-Clark State College President Announces Retirement

Dr. Tony Fernandez has announced the date of his upcoming retirement from Lewis-Clark State College. June 17th, 2018 will be Dr. Fernandez’s last day at the school, after serving as president since March of 2011. Dr. Fernandez said, “What I’m Happy about is the college is in very, very strong hands with the rest of the administration, but especially the faculty and staff.”

Dr. Michael Fiorentino Jr. will retire from Lock Haven University in March of 2018. Dr. Fiorentino has served as president since 2011. He said, “It is time for us to shift our focus to spending more time with cherished friends and family and to enjoy the time for new adventures.”

Loyola University New Orleans President Retiring

Rev. Kevin Wildes has penned a letter to the Loyola University community announcing his retirement from the school. He plans to leave office by fall of 2018, upon the appointment of his successor.

Mansield University President Announces Retirement

The president of Mansfield University has announced his plans to retire in June of next year. General Fran Hendricks, who has led the school since 2013, has announced he will step down at the end of this academic year to spend more time with his family. The school will name an interim president to serve after Hendricks’ retirement.

Dr. Lee Royce has announced his retirement from Mississippi College. Dr. Royce has served as president since 2002, and plans to step down in May of 2018.

Otterbein President Retiring

Dr. Kathy Krendl, president of Otterbein University, has announced her plans to retire. Krendl has served as president since July of 2009. She will retire in June of 2018, at the end of the academic year. A search for Krendl’s replacement will begin this fall.

Pennsylvania State System Chancellor to Retire

Mr. Frank T. Brogan, Chancellor of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, has notified the board of governors that he plans to retire immediately. Brogan announced his retirement after an internal review, concentrating on the state’s educational system, was released. An interim chancellor will be named after a national search for Brogan’s successor.

After four years of serving Santa Fe Community College, Mr. Randy Grissom, has announced his retirement. Grissom has served the school in teaching and administrative positions for the past 22 years. He will retire this October.

Dr. James C. Williamson has unexpectedly resigned from the North Carolina Community college System. Williamson served less than a year as president. The Board of Trustees has named current chief of staff, Jennifer Haygood, as interim president.

After 11 months as president of Roanoke Chowan CC, Dr. Jimmy Tate, has resigned from the school. Tate was the eighth president of RCCC. He took over for Dr. Michael Elam, who retired in June of last year.

Benedict College Appoints New President

Dr. Roslyn Clark Artis has been announced as the next president of Benedict College. Dr. Artis will make history by becoming the first woman to lead the school located in Columbia, South Carolina. She will replace Dr. David Swinton in September. Swinton is retiring after 23 years at the school.

The board of trustees at Bennett College have appointed Dr. Phyllis Dawkins to become the school’s eighteenth president. Dawkins previously served as interim president, starting last August.

Bishop State has named Dr. Reginald Sykes to become the school’s next president. Dr. Sykes had been the interim president since February 2016. Sykes will begin immediately as the permanent president.

City College of San Francisco Taps New Chancellor

Dr. Mark Rocha has been appointed chancellor of the City College of San Francisco. Rocha was previously the president of Pasadena City College. Rocha is the first permanent chancellor at CCSF since 2015.

Dr. Edison O. Jackson, president of Bethune-Cookman University, as announced his early retirement from the school. Jackson’s retirement comes after 2 years of operating at a loss and a controversial dorm project. Johnson has served the school since 2012.

Dr. Haywood L Strickland has announced that he will retire from Wiley College in Marshall, Texas. Strickland said, “I’m getting old.” Dr. Strickland is the longest serving president in Wiley’s history with 18 years at the helm. He will retire at the end of the next academic year.

Dr. Hamid Shirvani has announced his resignation from Briar Cliff University. Shirvani began as the school’s 10th president in 2016. He cited “a combination of family, personal and professional considerations” as the reasons for leaving.

Bergen Community College Appoints Interim President

Michael Redmon has been appointed as the interim president at Bergen CC. The change comes after trustees at the school voted to fire former president, Kaye Walter, after six years at the school. Redmon is a former college administrator at schools in Florida and Indiana.

Cheney University has announced that Mr. Aaron A. Walton will become the school’s interim president. Walton will take over for Frank G. Pogue, who has been interim president since November 2014.

A new president has been appointed at Great Basin College. Ms. Joyce Helens was picked out of three finalists to take over at the school. Helens was previously president of St. Cloud Technical and Community College in Minnesota. She will begin August 1st.

Dr. William Bynum Jr. has been named the next president at Jackson State University by the school’s Board of Trustees. The move is controversial because Bynum was not one of the three initial finalists for the position. Bynum is currently the president of Mississippi Valley State University and will begin in July.

Dr. Kimberly Beatty has been named the 8th chancellor at Metropolitan Community College Kansas City. Beatty is currently serving as vice chancellor for instructional services and chief academic officer at Houston Community College. Dr. Beatty will replace Mark S. James, who retired at the end of June.

Simmons was the first ever black president of an Ivy League school, serving Brown University up until 2012. Dr. Janice Gilliam has announced her immediate retirement from Northeast State CC. The announcement comes on the heels of an investigation by the Tennessee Board of Regents into Gilliam and the school.

Dr. George A. Pruitt has announced that he will retire in December of 2017. Pruitt has served the school since 1982. He said, “Serving as president of this wonderful university has been the single, greatest privilege of my professional life.”

Dr. Gloria C. Larson, president of Bentley College, has announced that she will step down in late June of 2018. Larson has been at the school for over a decade. “It has been the highest honor of my long and varied career to serve as Bentley’s 7th president,” she said.

Dr. Subra Suresh resigned from Carnegie Mellon College on June 30th. Suresh has served CMU for the past four years. Current provost and chief academic officer, Dr. Farnam Jahanian, has stepped in as interim president.

Dr. Karen Whitney has announced that she will step down at the end of the next academic school year. She has been president of Clarion University since 2009.

Dr. Anne E. Huot has announced that she will resign as the school’s president on July 31st, 2017. “It has been a privilege to serve this great college,” she said. Huot plans to stay at the school as a biology professor.

Dr. Leroy Sanchez has been fired from his position as president at Luna Community College. Sanchez started at the school in 2015. The school’s hiring practices have been questioned since Sanchez has been president.

The president of Motlow State Community College has resigned. The resignation comes on the eve of an audit that accused President Tony Kinkel of using “fear and intimidation” while leading the college. Kinkel has been president at the school since August 2015.

President Doug Baker Resigned in mid-June after an investigation concluded that he had bypassed bidding requirements when hiring consultants there. Baker denied any wrongdoing. He began as president in 2013.

Highlights

Iowa Board of Regents Elects New President:

Dr. Michael Richards has been unanimously elected to serve as the next president of the Iowa Board of Regents. Dr. Richards will become the 22nd president of the Iowa Board immediately.

University of Missouri Names New Chancellor:

The University of Missouri has named Dr. Alexander Cartwright as the school’s new chancellor. Cartright is currently the provost and executive vice chancellor of the State University of New York School System. He will begin at Missouri on August 1st.

Utah President David Pershing Resigning:

Dr. David Pershing has announced that he will resign. The resignation comes amid turmoil over a power play for control of the Huntsman Cancer Institute after the sudden firing—then reinstatement—of the institute’s director and CEO, Mary Beckerle. Preparations for the search of a successor are currently underway.

Highlights

Baylor Appoints its First Female President

Baylor University has appointed Dr. Linda A. Livingstone, dean at George Washington School of Business, as its 15th president.  Livingstone will replace interim President David Garland on June 1st.

University of Arizona Approves New President

Dr. Robert Robbins has been approved by The Arizona Board of Regents to a three-year contract as president at the school.  Robbins will take over for Dr. Ann Weaver Hart, who announced she will step down on June 1st.

William and Mary President to Retire After a Decade of Service

Mr. W. Taylor Reveley has announced that he will retire at the end of next year from the College of William and Mary. Revely said, “Serving as president of a college or university is one of the most challenging but meaningful jobs anyone can possibly have.” He continued with, “It has certainly been so for me. And it has been a rare privilege to lead this magnificent school. All parts of the William & Mary family, working together, have taken crucially important steps forward. I’ll leave the Brafferton in June 2018 with confidence that W&M’s momentum will keep rolling, while I enjoy the Elysian Fields of retirement at long last.” Revely has served as president since 2008.
