American University Names New President
Sylvia Mathews Burwell, most recently the Secretary of the United States Department of Health and Human Services, has been named as the next President of American University. Burwell will be the school’s 15th and first female leader. She was previously a cabinet member for Barack Obama. Burwell will begin June first, replacing Dr. Cornelius Kerwin, who announced his retirement last March.
Ball State University Names New President
Mr. Geoffrey Mearns has been named the new president of Ball State University. Mearns previously served as president at Northern Kentucky University. Mearns will replace Dr. Terry King who will resign in August.
New President Appointed at College of Alameda
Mr. Tim Karas has been approved by the Board of Trustees for Peralta Community College District to begin his tenure as president at the College of Alameda. Karas was formerly the vice president of instruction at the university. He begins January 3, 2017.
Elizabethtown Community Appoints New President
Dr. Juston Pate will begin as Elizabethtown Community and Technical College’s next president on January 1st. Pate was previously provost at Maysville Community and Technical College.
George Washington University Names Next President
The board of trustees at GWU has approved Thomas J. Leblanc’s appointment as the university’s next president. Dr. Leblanc is currently serving as executive vice president and provost at the University of Miami. Current President Steven Knapp will step down in July after 10 years of service.
Mount Wachusett CC Officially Appoints Next President
Mr. James Vander Hooven has been voted in unanimously by the state Board of Higher Education to become president at Mt. Wachusett Community College. Vander Hooven will replace Dr. Daniel Asquino on March 19th.
Louisville Announces New Interim President
The University of Louisville has appointed Dr. Greg Postel to become the school’s interim president. Postel is currently serving as interim executive vice president of health affairs. Postel begins January 30th and will replace Dr. Neville Pinto, who left to become president of Cincinnati.
Penn State Wilkes-Barre Appoints New Chancellor
Dr. Vernon Dale Jones has been named the next chancellor at Penn State Wilkes-Barre. Dr. Jones is currently vice president for strategy and administration at Hampden Sydney College. He will replace current chancellor, Charles H. Davis, who is retiring in mid-January.
Interim President Announced at Shippensburg University
Dr. Barbara Lyman has been appointed interim president of Shippensburg University. Lyman was previously serving as provost and executive vice president at the school. Shippensburg is in the initial stages of identifying a permanent president.
Sioux Falls Stays In-House with New President
The University of Sioux Falls has appointed Dr. Brett Bradfield to become the schools 23rd President. Bradfield is currently provost at Sioux Falls. He will take over for Dr. Mark Benedetto, who has served as president for the last two decades.
Sweet Briar Picks New President
Sweet Briar College has announced that Meredith Woo will become its next president. Woo has formerly served as dean of UVA’s College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. She will succeed Phillip C. Stone, who announced he will retire in June.
New Year, New President at UT Tyler
In November, the Texas system board of regents named Miachael V. Tidwell as the next president of The University of Texas at Tyler. On January 1st Dr. Tidwell began his post as president. Tidwell replaced previous president, Rodney H. Mahbry, who retired at the end of the year.
Interim President Promoted at West Chester University
In early January, Christopher M. Florentino, was appointed President of West Chester University. Dr. Florentino has served WCU for over 30 years, starting as an assistant professor in 1983.
Vassar College Announces New President
Dr. Elizabeth Howe Bradley has been named Vassar College’s next president. She is currently a public health scholar at Yale. Bradley will start July 1st, and take over for Interim President: Johnathan Chenette.
Western Kentucky Names 10th President
Dr. Timothy Caboni was welcomed as Western Kentucky’s next president this month. Caboni is an alumnus and will begin his tenure on July 1st. He replaces Dr. Gary Ransdell, who will retire in June after serving the school for twenty years.
Eastern Wyoming College President to Retire
Dr. Richard Patterson will retire as president from Eastern Wyoming College. Patterson took over in 2014 after the resignation of Tom Armstrong. Patterson will leave the school in June.
President of Gateway Community College Retiring in June
Dr. Dorsey L Kendrick, president of Gateway CC, has announced she will retire in June. Kendrick has served as president since 1999. A succession plan is in the works.
President of Kirkwood CC announces Retirement
Dr. Mick Starcevich has announced his retirement from Kirkwood Community College. Starcevich plans to retire in June of 2008, thus offering the board of trustees enough time to find a suitable replacement.
President of Johnson C. Smith University Bids Farewell
Dr. Ronald Carter has announced his resignation saying, “There is no doubt in my mind that this is the turning-point time for me to make room for a successor of this historic institution.” Carter will step down at the end of the 2016/17 year. He served as president for eight years.
UVA President Resigning in August
Dr. Teresa Sullivan will step down when her contract ends in August of 2018. Sullivan has dealt with many difficult episodes during her tenure as president, including a federal investigation. Sullivan fully intends to keep working until her contract expires.
Lewis And Clark College President Resigns
Dr. Barry Glassner has resigned immediately from Lewis and Clark. Glassner served as president since 2010. He will remain a part of the faculty, though not president. Glassner is replaced by Interim President David Ellis. Ellis is formerly the schools vice president and general counsel leader.
Wheeling Jesuit President Resigns
The president of Wheeling Jesuit University has resigned after seven years. Reverend James Fleming submitted his resignation earlier this month. The school is currently looking for an interim president.
