Appointments
Cal State East Bay Appoints New President
Trustees on the CSU Board have announced that Cathy Sandeen will become the school’s next president. Sandeen currently serves as chancellor at the University of Alaska Anchorage and will begin her tenure on June 4th.
New President Announced at Cal State Northridge
Erika D. Beck has been appointed to serve as the next president at California State Northridge. Dr. Beck Currently serves as President of Cal State Channel Islands. She will begin her role as president on January 11th.

New Chancellor Appointed CSU Chancellor
The California State System has appointed its eighth chancellor in Joseph Castro. Castro has served as Cal State Fresno’s President for the last eight years and will become the first California Native and Mexican American to lead the 23 school’s in the Cal State System. Castro will replace Timothy P. White who has served as leader since 2012.
Gadsen State Names New President
Dr. Kathy L. Murphy has been named the new president of Gadsen State CC. Murphy currently serves as superintendent of Hoover City Schools. She will begin on January 1st.
Trustees Announce New President of Hiram College
Hiram College Board of Trustees have announced the appointment of David Haney as the school’s new president. Haney previously served for two years as president of Centenary University.
Lakeland University Announces New President
Beth Borgen has been promoted from executive VP to President at Lakeland College. Borgen is the school’s first female president and will begin her roll immediately.
Montana State Selects New Chancellor
Stefani Hicswa has been announced as the new Chancellor of Montana State University. Hicswa currently serves as president of Northwest College in Wyoming. She will begin here tenure on January 11th, succeeding Dan Edelman.
Penn State Berks Names New Chancellor
George Grant Jr. has been announced the new chancellor of Penn State Berks. Grant Jr. Currently serves as professor and dean of the College of Community and Public Service at Grand Valley State. He will succeed Keith HillKirk, who is retiring after 15 years at the school. Grant Jr. Will begin on January 4th.
Seattle University Announces 22nd President
Eduardo Penalver has been named the new president of Seattle University. Penalver was the first Latino Dean of Cornell Law School. He will begin his tenure in July of 2021.
Retirements
President Leaving at Wake Forest University
Nathan Hatch has announced his plans to step down as leader of Wake Forest. Hatch has served as the school’s president for the past fifteen years. He intends to begin his retirement in June of 2021.
Retirement Announced at Iowa
Bruce Harreld has announced his retirement from the University of Iowa. The announcement comes a year after a contract extension through 2023. Harreld has served the school for the past five years and will stay on until a replacement is announced.
University of Maryland Global President to Retire
Javier Miyares has announced his plans to retire from UMGC. Miyares has served as president for the past eight years and will officially leave in June of 2021. The USM Board of Regents are currently searching for Miyare’s successor.
Retirement Announced at New College
Donal O’Shea has announced his plan to step down as president of new college at the end of the academic year. O’Shea has served the school since 2012. A new president will be chosen from a list of students, faculty, alumni and trustees.
Resignations
Holy Cross President to Step Down
Reverend Phillip L. Boroughs has announced plans to step down as leader of the College of Holy Cross. Boroughs has served as president for the school for the past nine years and will leave in June of 2021.
Florida State University President Resigns
John Thrasher has announced that he will be stepping down as president at Florida State. Thrasher has served as president since 2014 and will remain in office until a new president is announced.
Georgia State University President to Resign
Mark Becker, president of Georgia State University, has announced his plan to resign. Becker has served the school for the past decade. He plans to leave in June of 2021.
Lafayette President to Step Down
Current president of Lafayette College Alison Byerly has announced her plan to step down at the end of the 2021 academic year. Byerly has served as the school’s 17th president since 2013.
Northern Arizona President Announces Resignation
Rita Cheng has announced her plan to leave NAU after six years as president. Cheng replaced John Haeger in 2001 as the school’s 16th president. She will serve until a new leader is named.
SUNY Oneonta President Steps Down Upon Handling of Corona Virus
Barbara Jean Morris has “transitioned from her position as president” at SUNY Oneonta. With the school experiencing hundreds of positive Covid Cases, Morris said she wanted to “pursue other opportunities.”
University of Richmond President Resigning
Current University of Richmond President Ronald Crutcher has announced his plans to step down at the end of the 2022 academic year. Crutcher will return to the faculty as a university professor following a sabbatical. A search for a replacement is currently underway.
Wichita State President Resigns
Jay Golden has announced his resignation from Wichita State University. Less than a year after being hired, Golden came under fire from donors after dropping Ivanka Trump as the school’s keynote speaker at graduation. A search for a replacement is currently underway.
