Louisville Announces New President

The University of Louisville has named Dr. Neeli Bendapudi as the institution’s next president. Dr. Bendapudi has served as provost at Kansas University for the last seven years. She will begin her tenure as Louisville’s first female president in May.

Ms. Jean G. Dahlgren has been elected as the new president of Delware CAD. Dahlgren will replace interim president, John C. Hawkins, on August 1st. Ms. Dahlgren currently serves as dean of undergraduate programs at Sage College of Albany.

New President Announced at Edward Waters College

Dr. Zachary Faison Jr. has been named the new president of Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, Fl. Faison will take over for Dr. Nat Glover, who announced he was stepping down earlier this year. Dr. Faison will become the 150-year-old HBCU’s 30th president.

Hampshire College Appoints New President

Dr. Miriam E. Nelson has been named the next president of Hampshire College. Dr. Nelson is currently deputy director of the Sustainability Institute at the University of New Hampshire, and previously served as a longtime scholar at Tufts University. She will replace Dr. Jonathan Lash in July.

Michigan Technological University officials have announced that Dr. Richard Koubek will become the school’s 10th president. Koubek will replace Dr. Glenn Mroz, who has served as president for the last 14 years, on July 1st.

Dr. Daniel A. Wubah will become Millersville University’s next president. Wubah will replace John Anderson, who is retiring after serving for the past 5 years. Dr. Wubah will begin on July 1st.

Dr. John Comerford has been selected to become the next president of Otterbein University. Comerford currently serves as president of Blackburn College in Illinois. He will begin on July 1st.

Weber State President Accepts Role at Salisbury

President of Weber State University, Charles Wight, has been announced as the next president at Salisbury University in Maryland. Wight has been at Weber State for the past 5 years and will begin at Salisbury on July 1st.

The College of New Jersey Announces Next President

Dr. Kathryn A. Foster has been appointed the 16th president of The College of New Jersey in New Jersey. Foster currently serves as president of the University of Maine at Farmington. She will begin her tenure at TCNJ in July.

Board Announces Interim President at Akron

Dr. John C. Green has been selected become interim president at the University of Akron. Dr. Green is currently dean of the school’s arts and sciences college. He will begin immediately.

New Hampshire Selects Next President

The University of New Hampshire has selected Dr. James Dean Jr. to become the school’s next president. Dr. Dean is a former provost at UNC Chapel Hill. He will become the school’s 20th president on June 30th and replaces President Mark Huddleston who announced his retirement.

Northern Colorado Picks New President

Dr. Andrew Feinstein has been selected by the Northern Colorado Board of Trustees to become the university’s new president. Feinstein is currently serving as San Jose State’s provost. He will replace current president, Kay Norton, who is retiring this summer.

Whittier College Selects New President

Current dean of the College of Business at San Francisco State, Dr. Linda Oubre, has been selected as the new president of Whittier College. She will take over for Dr. Sharon Herzberger who announced she will retire at the end of June after 13 years as president.

Vassar College Announces New President

Dr. Elizabeth Howe Bradley has been named Vassar College’s next president. She is currently a public health scholar at Yale. Bradley will start July 1st, and take over for Interim President: Johnathan Chenette.

Retirements

Queens University President Retiring

Dr. Pamela Davies, president of Queens University of Charlotte, has announced that she will retire after serving the school for the past 16 years. Davies plans to leave at the end of the next academic year upon the finding of a successor.

San Jose/Evergreen CC District Chancellor Announces Retirement

Dr. Deborah Budd plans to retire at the end of the 2018 academic year. Bud has served as chancellor of San Jose – Evergreen Community College District since 2015. An interim chancellor has been selected in Dr. Byron Clift Breland, the current president of San Jose City College.

Dr. Linda Bennett has announced that she will retire on June 30th after nine years as president. She will be succeeded by Dr. Rondal S Rochon, current provost of USI.

Crowder College President Resigns

Dr. Jennifer Methvin has announced her resignation from Crowder College. Methvin is leaving the school to become the next chancellor of Arkansas State University, where she will begin her tenure in July.

President Announces Resignation at Hobart and William Smith

Dr. Gregory J. Vincent has announced that he will resign as president of Hobart and William Smith Colleges immediately. Vincent is being investigated for possibly plagiarize his doctorate dissertation while studying at Penn. In 2004. Dr. Pat Mcguire has been named interim president at the school until a successor is chosen.

Cal State Bakersfield Names New President

Dr. Lynette Zelezny has been named by the California State University Board of Trustees the next president of Cal State Bakersfield. Zelezny currently serves as provost at Fresno State University. She will begin her tenure in June of this year.

Carnegie Mellon has announced that Dr. Farnam Jahanian will become the school’s 10th president. Dr. Jahanian has served the last two years as CMU’s interim president. His appointment is immediate, with a fall inauguration scheduled.

Coppersmith to Become President of Chesapeake College

Chesapeake College has named Dr. Clifford P. Coppersmith as the school’s next president. Coppersmith formerly served as dean of City College in Billings Montana. He will begin his post at the end of May.

Dr. Amit Singh has been announced as the next president of Edmonds Community College outside of Seattle. Singh currently serves as provost of Clark State Community College. He will replace former Edmonds CC president, Jean Hernandez, who retired on December 31st. Dr. Singh begins on June 25th.

Dr. Rodney S. Hanley will be appointed president of Lake Superior State on July 1st. Hanley is currently provost and VP for academic affairs at Fisk University. Dr. Hanley succeeds Peter Mitchell, who has been interim president at Lake Superior since last July.

Board Selects New President at Lincoln University

Lincoln University’s Board of Curators has selected Dr. Jerald Woolfolk to become the Missouri school’s next president. Woolfolk is currently vice president for student affairs and enrollment at SUNY Oswego. Dr. Woolfolk will begin her tenure this May.

Floyd in as President at Mars Hill University

Dr. Tony Floyd has been appointed the 22nd president of Mars Hill University in North Carolina. Floyd Currently serves as Coker College’s Executive Vice President. He will begin on June 1st.

Minnesota State College System Picks President

The Board of Trustees of Minnesota State Colleges and Universities will stay in-house for the systems premier position. Dr. Devinder Malhotra, current interim chancellor, has been promoted to the position permanently. Malhotra has served as interim chancellor since August of 2017 and holds a doctorate from Kansas University.

New Chancellor Named at Montana State-Billings

Dr. Dan Edelman has been selected by a search committee to become the next president of Montana state at Billings. Edelman currently serves as the VP for administration and CFO at the University of North Texas Dallas. Dr. Edelman will begin on May 7th and replaces Interim President Larsen.

First Female President Named at Oklahoma City University

Martha Burger has been announced as the next president of Oklahoma City University. Burger will become the school’s first female president after President Robert Henry retires in June.

Dr. Caro Announced as President at Peirce College

Dr. Mary Ellen Caro will begin come the first female president and CEO of Peirce College in Philadelphia. Caro will take over for Dr. James Mergiotti who announced his plans to retire on April 16th. She will be the school’s eighth president.

Current provost of Georgian Court University in Lakewood, NJ, Dr. William J. Behre will become the next president of Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania. Behre will replace Dr. Cheryl Norton who retired as president last June. He begins his tenure in July.

Tenth President Announced at the University of Bridgeport

Dr. Laura Trombley, current president of the Huntington Library Art Collection, has been named the next president of the University of Bridgeport. Trombley is also president emerita of Pitzer College. She will begin her role as president this summer.

Williams College Appoints New President

Dr. Maude S. Mandel has been announced as the 18th president of Williams College in Massachusetts. Mandel currently serves as dean at Brown University. She will succeed Protik Majumder, who has served as interim president since the beginning of the year. Dr. Mandel will begin her tenure on July 1st.

Dr. John Hitt Retiring from Central Florida, Replacement Found

Dr. John Hitt will retire from the University of Central Florida after 26 years as president. Hitt will be replaced by Dr. Dale A. Whittaker in July. Whitaker currently serves as provost at UCF.

Retirement Announced at Grand Valley State

Dr. Thomas J. Haas has announced that he will retire in June of 2019. Haas has served as Grand Valley State President for the past 12 years. He said, “It’s the right time to announce my retirement, but let me assure everyone, I’m as excited to come to work at Grand Valley as I’ve ever been.” A special meeting was immediately called by The Board of Trustees to begin a search for the school’s next president.

Pepperdine President Stepping Down

Dr. Andrew K. Benton, the longest serving president in Pepperdine’s history, has announced that he will retire at the end of the 2018-19 academic year. Benton said, “This is a significant change that, while difficult, we believe comes at just the right time – for Pepperdine, for our students, and for us.”

SUNY Purchase President Announces Retirement

Purchase College President Thomas J. Schwarz has announced that he will retire next June. Schwarz has served as president of the school for the past 17 years. Schwarz will remain on Purchase’s board after retirement.

Edinboro University President Resigns

Dr. Fred Walker has resigned as president of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. Walker’s resignation will make 6 presidents in the last 11 years at the school. An interim president has been chosen in provost Dr. Michael Hannan.

Harvard has announced that its next president will be former Tufts University President, Dr. Lawrence S. Bacow. Bacow will take over for Dr. Drew Gilpin Faust, who is resigning after 11 years at the helm. He will begin in June of this year.

Former Dean of the Ross School of Business at Michigan, Dr. Alison Davis-Blake, has been appointed president of Bentley University. Dr. Davis-Blake will begin in July.

Current provost of Smith College, Dr. Katherine A. Rowe, has been named the 28th president at William and Mary. Rowe said, “This is an institution that was founded by a woman as well as a man. It feels right.” She will succeed President W. Taylor Reveley III, who announced his plans to retire in June, 2018.

Zak previously served as director of the U.S. Trade and Development Agency and received a law degree from Northeastern University. She will take over for Elizabeth Kiss, who announced her retirement in June.

Cleveland State has picked Harlan M. Sands to become the school’s next president. Sands is currently vice dean and CFO of the Wharton School at Penn. He will begin his tenure in July with a salary of $455,000.

Johnson College Selects President

The board at Johnson College has named Ms. Katie Leonard to become president of Johnson College. Leonard currently acts as the Executive VP of Johnson. She will begin her roll as president on July 1st.

Former Governor John Engler has been named as interim president of Michigan State University. The appointment comes in the wake of the Larry Nasser sexual abuse scandal which resulted in former president, Lou Anna Simon’s resignation. College of Charleston President Announces Retirement

Dr. Glenn McConnell will retire as president of the College or Charleston this summer. McConnell has served at the position since 2014, when he became the schools 22nd president. He cites health and age as the significant factor in his retirement.

Dr. Bonnie Coe has announced her retirement from Central Ohio Technical College. She began her role as president at the college in 2004, and said, “I am confident of COTC’s promising future, an excellent team is in place and…will carry COTC into its next 50 years.” Coe will step down in January of next year.

After more than 20 years at the helm, Dr. Scott Elliot has announced his retirement from Meridian Community College. He said, “Being part of the MCC family has been the greatest blessing of my 33 years in higher education administration.” Elliot will officially retire in June of this year.

Dr. E. Ann McGee has announced her retirement as president of Seminal State College of Florida. She is only the second president in the school’s history and has served there since 1996. Dr. McGee will leave on July 31st.

U of Rochester President Resigns Amid Scandal

President Joel Seligman has resigned as president of the University of Rochester after the release of a report on sexual misconduct on campus. Seligman wrote in an email to campus, “It is clear to me that the best interests of the University are best served with new leadership, and a fresh perspective to focus on healing our campus and moving us forward in the spirit of cooperation and unity.” Dr. Richard Feldman has been announced as the interim president at the school and will begin immediately.

President George Ross has announced he will step down as leader of Central Michigan University. Ross has served the school for the past 8 years, and will leave in July of this year.

Dr. Ray Keck announced that he will step down as president from Texas A & M University at Commerce in August. Keck has led the school since 2001.

Dr. Ajay Nair has been named the 22nd president of Arcadia University. Dr. Nair is an Arcadia Alumna who currently serves as senior vice president and dean of campus life at Emory University. Nair will begin as president in April.

California State Fullerton has appointed Framroze (Fram) Virjee to become the school’s interim president. Mr. Virjee was previously executive vice chancellor and general counsel for the California State University System Office. He began as interim president on January 1st, 2018.

After a four-month search, the College of Eastern Idaho has picked Dr. Rick Aman to become the school’s president. Aman served as president of Eastern Idaho Technical College prior to the formation of the College of Eastern Idaho.

Current SUNY Empire State President, Dr. Merodie Hancock, will become the fourth president at Thomas Edison State University. She will replace Dr. George Pruitt, who announced his retirement last June.

Dr. Allison Morrison-Shetlar has been appointed acting chancellor of Western Carolina University. She will take over for Dr. David Belcher, who is on medical leave.

Dr. David Armstrong is retiring as president of Broward College after 10 years at the helm. Armstrong will stay with the school until June of 2018. A national search is currently being performed to find a replacement.

Dr. Guy Altieri has retired from Hagerstown Community College. Dr. Altieri has served Hagerstown CC since 2002. The school is currently performing an executive search to find a replacement.

Southwestern Illinois President Announces Retirement

Dr. Georgia Costello has announced her retirement as president of Southwestern Illinois College. Costello has served SWIC since 2007, and will formerly leave the school in late June.

Dr. Edwin Welch has announced that he will retire from the University of Charleston in June of 2018. Welch has served the school since 1989.

Cal State Fullerton President Leaving

Dr. Mildred Garcia has announced her resignation as president of Cal State Fullerton. Garcia has served the school for the past six years and will leave in January of 2018. She said, “This is a pretty bittersweet, emotional day for me.” Garcia will continue her role in higher education as the president of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Mary Ellen Mazey, president of Bowling Green State, resigned from the university on December 31st, 2017. Mazey has been at the school for the last seven years.

Olens Resigns from Kennesaw State

Mr. Sam Olens has announced his resignation from Kennesaw State University. His resignation comes on the heels of a cheerleader protest scandal from earlier this year. Olens was appointed in November of 2016.

U of Texas System Chancellor Resigning

William McRaven, the University of Texas System Chancellor, has announced his decision to resign in May of 2018. McRaven previously served in the Navy, where he commanded the group of special forces that killed Osama bin Laden. He has served as Chancellor since 2015.

Delaware Sate University Appoints Interim President

The DSU Board of Trustees has selected Dr. Wilma Mishoe to become the next interim president of the university. Mishoe will begin her role in January after current president, Dr. Harry Williams, moves on to lead the Thurgood Marshall College Fund.

DePaul University, the largest Catholic university in the country, inaugurated its next president on November 19th. Dr. Gabriel Esteban will oversee 22,769 students as the schools 12th president. Dr. Esteban was previously the president of Seton Hall University in New Jersey.

Dr. David Johns has been named the next president of Ferrum College. Johns currently serves as VP for academic affairs at Union College in Kentucky. He will begin his tenure in January of next year.

Former Administrator Named President at Fort Hays State

Fort Hays State has announced Dr. Tisa Mason will become the school’s next president. Mason previously served the school as the VP of student affairs for six years until 2014, when she became president of Valley City State University. Dr. Mason received her doctorate in higher education from the College of William and Mary in Virginia.

Mr. George Evans has been appointed by the Kaskaskia College Board to become the school’s interim president. Evans received the title after Dr. Penny Quinn announced that she will resign immediately following a board meeting. Evans will serve as interim president until June 30th of next year.

Nicholls State has named Dr. Jay Clune to become the next president of the university. Clune is currently the interim dean of the graduate school at the University of West Florida. He will begin as president in January.

Dr. Ashish Vaidya has been named the 6th president at Northern Kentucky University. Vaidya is currently the interim president of St. Cloud State University. Vaidya will begin in July of 2018.

Dr. Garnnett S. Stokes has been appointed the 22nd President of the University of New Mexico. Stokes will succeed Interim President Chaouki Abdallah. Dr. Stokes previously served as the interim chancellor at the University of Missouri and will begin her role as president in March of 2018.

Boise State President Announces Retirement

President Bob Kustra has announced his retirement as president of Boise State University. Kustra has served the school for the past 14 years. He said, “I think every organization deserves the opportunity every so many years for new leadership and 15 years, I thought, was the perfect point where you just say it’s time.” President Kustra will retire at the end of this academic year in June.

Dr. Victor Jaime has announced his retirement from Imperial Valley College in California. Jaime has served as president of the college for the past seven years. He will retire at the end of the 2017/18 academic year.

President Keith Watson will retire from Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences in June of 2018. Watson served the school for 5 years. A search for Watson’s successor is currently underway.

MGH Institute of Health Professions has named its 6th president after a nationwide search. Dr. Paula Milone-Nuzzo will become the new president of the independent graduate school located in Boston. She comes to the institute after serving 14 years at the College of Nursing at Penn State University.

Mrs. Rob Widmer has announced that he will retire from his post as president next year. Widmer has served the school for over 20 years, and began as the VP of business services in 1996. He will retire on June 30th, 2018.

The president of Norfolk State University, Mr. Eddie Moore Jr., has announced that he will retire no later than Dec. 31st, 2017. The decision, according to Rector Dr. Byron Cherry, “Kind of caught us kind of off guard a little bit.” Moore has served the school since 2013.

Longtime Oklahoma President Set to Retire

Dr. David Boren has announced that he will retire as president at the University of Oklahoma. Boren said he wanted to retire when the university was at maximum strength, and that he feels now is the time to do so. Boren has served the school since 1994. He plans to officially retire on June 30th, 2018.

Dr. Dennis Massey has informed trustees at Pitt CC that he will be retiring at the end of the 2017-2018 academic year. Massey said, “I have been proud to lead a talented group of faculty and staff at PCC.” He has served as the fourth President at Pitt CC since 2003.

Ms. Kay Norton has announced that she will retire from the University of Northern Colorado at the end of June, 2018. Norton has served the school for the last 15 years, and is the longest tenured current president of four-year public institutions in Colorado.

Mr. Frank T. Brogan, Chancellor of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, has notified the board of governors that he plans to retire immediately. Brogan announced his retirement after an internal review, concentrating on the state’s educational system, was released. An interim chancellor will be named after a national search for Brogan’s successor.

Shawnee CC Selects Alumna as Next President

The SCC Board of Trustees has picked Dr. Peggy F. Bradford to become the school’s eighth president. Bradford attended Shawnee Community College, and earned her doctorate from Northern Illinois University. She replaces Tim Bellamy, who retired in April.

The Slippery Rock Board of Governors has selected Phillip K. Way, current provost and VP for academic affairs, to become the next acting president at the school. Mr. way is replacing Cheryl Norton, who retired as president in June.

Dr. Tonjua Williams has been announced as the next president at St. Petersburg College in Florida. Williams is currently senior vice president of student services and has worked at the school for 30 years. She will replace Dr. Bill Law, who retired at the end of June.

First Latino President Named at SUNY Albany

Dr. Havidan Rodriguez has been announced as the next president at SUNY Albany. Rodriguez is currently the provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at the University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley. Rodriguez will begin his post in September.

Interim President Receives Permanent Position at Maine-Augusta

Dr. Rebecca Wyke has been appointed the new president at the University of Maine at Augusta. Wyke previously served as the school’s interim president in 2015. She replaces Dr. James Conneely, who resigned suddenly in April.

Dr. Richard Ludwick has been named the next president at The University of St. Thomas. Dr. Ludwick was previously the president of the Independent Colleges of Indiana. Ludwick will succeed Dr. Robert Ivany, who retired in June.

Washington College has announced that Mr. Kurt M. Landgraf will become the school’s new president. Landgraf will begin on July 1st following the resignation of former president, Ms. Sheila Blair.

Bluffton University President to Retire in 2018

Dr. James M. Harder has announced that he plans to retire in June of next year. Harder has served the university since 2006, and created 14 new academic programs at the school in that time.

Carteret Community College President Retires

Dr. Kerry Youngblood has retired from Carteret CC. Youngblood said at his last meeting, “Thank you all for what a privilege it’s been.” Dr. John Hauser will replace Youngblood as the school’s president on July 3rd.

Northeast State Community College President Announces Retirement Amid Investigation

Dr. Janice Gilliam has announced her immediate retirement from Northeast State CC. The announcement comes on the heels of an investigation by the Tennessee Board of Regents into Gilliam and the school.

Retirement Announced at Thomas Edison State

Dr. George A. Pruitt has announced that he will retire in December of 2017. Pruitt has served the school since 1982. He said, “Serving as president of this wonderful university has been the single, greatest privilege of my professional life.”

The interim president of Ventura County CC will retire on June 30th. Dr. Bernie Luskin has served the school since May 2015, and will be honored with a ceremony.

Bentley President Stepping Down

Dr. Gloria C. Larson, president of Bentley College, has announced that she will step down in late June of 2018. Larson has been at the school for over a decade. “It has been the highest honor of my long and varied career to serve as Bentley’s 7th president,” she said.

Carnegie Mellon President Resigns

Dr. Subra Suresh resigned from Carnegie Mellon College on June 30th. Suresh has served CMU for the past four years. Current provost and chief academic officer, Dr. Farnam Jahanian, has stepped in as interim president.

Clarion University President Leaving after Next Year

Dr. Karen Whitney has announced that she will step down at the end of the next academic school year. She has been president of Clarion University since 2009.

Ferrum Board of Trustees have announced that Dr. Joseph Spooner has been released from his contract at the school. Spooner was at the school for less than a year. Chris Burnley, vice president for business and finance, will serve on an interim basis.

The President of Harvard University has announced that she will resign at the end of the next academic year. Drew Gilpin Faust has served the school since the summer of 2007. She is the first female president of the school.

Resignation at Keene State College

Dr. Anne E. Huot has announced that she will resign as the school’s president on July 31st, 2017. “It has been a privilege to serve this great college,” she said. Huot plans to stay at the school as a biology professor.

Firing at Luna Community College

Dr. Leroy Sanchez has been fired from his position as president at Luna Community College. Sanchez started at the school in 2015. The school’s hiring practices have been questioned since Sanchez has been president.

Motlow State President Resigns

The president of Motlow State Community College has resigned. The resignation comes on the eve of an audit that accused President Tony Kinkel of using “fear and intimidation” while leading the college. Kinkel has been president at the school since August 2015.

Northern Illinois University President Resigns

President Doug Baker Resigned in mid-June after an investigation concluded that he had bypassed bidding requirements when hiring consultants there. Baker denied any wrongdoing. He began as president in 2013.

Oakland CC president, Dr. Timothy Meyer, has been fired from the school. Meyer is still employed by the school, however Peter Provenzano is now the interim chancellor.

President Natalie Shirley has announced that she will resign at the end of December, 2017. Shirley has been president of the school since 2011. A national search is currently underway to choose a new president.

Dr. Brian L. Johnson has been dismissed as president from Tuskegee University. The school has been struggling financially with long-term debt. Johnson was the seventh president at the school.

Urban Resigns from West Shore Community College

Dr. Kenneth Urban has resigned as president from West Shore CC after two years at the helm. Board of Trustees Chairman, Bruce Smith said, “We came to the decision mutually.” VP of Administrative Services, Scott Ward, will serve as the interim president.

Highlights

Iowa Board of Regents Elects New President:

Dr. Michael Richards has been unanimously elected to serve as the next president of the Iowa Board of Regents. Dr. Richards will become the 22nd president of the Iowa Board immediately.

University of Missouri Names New Chancellor:

The University of Missouri has named Dr. Alexander Cartwright as the school’s new chancellor. Cartright is currently the provost and executive vice chancellor of the State University of New York School System. He will begin at Missouri on August 1st.

Utah President David Pershing Resigning:

Dr. David Pershing has announced that he will resign. The resignation comes amid turmoil over a power play for control of the Huntsman Cancer Institute after the sudden firing—then reinstatement—of the institute’s director and CEO, Mary Beckerle. Preparations for the search of a successor are currently underway.
